Product Description

Ngorongoro crater is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site located 180km/110miles west of Arusha. It is a conservation area where the Maasai live with their domestic animals in harmony with zebra, gazelles, wildebeest and dozens of other wildlife species and their predators. The name itself comes from Maasai word El-Nkoronkoro, meaning Gift of life, after migrating from far in Central Africa looking for settlement. The Ngorongoro Crater gives more opportunities to view “the big five” game, which no other place can provide. The chances to see a rare black rhino among others can be guaranteed.

Other interesting places to visit along the same route include Olduvai Gorge, which is in the same conservation area. Following the explorations of Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey, it is considered to have the earliest trace of mankind after discoveries of fossils and evidence that hominids occupied the area for about three million years. The area remains vibrant and magic from hunter-gatherers to pastoralists thousands years ago, to today’s Maasai living in the area.

The Shifting Sand is a remarkable black dune, made of volcanic ash from Oldonyo Lengai, which is being blown slowly westwards across the plains at the rate of 17 meters per year. The dune is 9 meter high and 100 meters long in a curve shape. It is found North of Olduvai Gorge among dozens of other natural attractions.
