PAJE is a small village on the East coast of Unguja where you can find beautiful white sand beaches peppered with palm trees. Among other things, Paje is known for its kite-surfing classes as well as other exciting water sports. The village is accessible by both private and public transport – known as dala-dala. It’s a budget friendly area with mini markets and other small stores.
Daily local activities in Paje include fishing and fishermen repairing their dhows, which offer excellent photographing opportunities. It is always advised to ask a subject before photographing them as charging a small amount for a photograph is one of the means of earning a living.
Accommodation can be arranged at a few places close to the beach facilities: Ndame Beach Lodge, Paje House and White Beach Hotel Zanzibar.
NUNGWI beach on the northern tip of Zanzibar is a place you can’t afford to miss, located one hour and a half to two hours from Stone Town by car.
A perfect destination for relaxation, diving and dining in multiple restaurants. Diving around the Mnemba atoll is reasonably priced for both daytime and nighttime dives on its spectacular reef. Nearby is the Mnarani aquarium and sea turtle conservation area, which is a very affordable side excursion. A perfect way to enjoy many of the nearby natural, historical and cultural sites is by cycling around. For those with a slightly healthier budget Jet Skis are available at the rate of $200 for 90 minutes.
Although there are no ATMS in Nungwi, most restaurants accept credit cards.
3.5km South of Nungwi lays the less populated, but scenic beach called Kendwa, which is nicer due to less sea weeds and less vendors. However the waves are rough and not made for swimming as the force could crush you onto the rocks! The scenery provides for a perfect and more isolated escape for those seeking peace and quiet. In general hotels in this area are more expensive and higher end.
